High School Varsity Multihanded Sailing

Age: 9th through 12th Grades

Class Description: The High School FJ Varsity program is committed to the pursuit of National Championships in Fleet races, Team Racing, Single handed, and Triple Handed events.  Skipper and crew combinations will change several times during the as the coach sees the need.  The sailors spend time learning and trying out each position while their coach will evaluate their individual abilities and ideal team placements.  We ask that parents share in our trust of the Lakewood Yacht Club Coaching Staff and support their decisions. The FJ is a fun fast boat to sail which requires athleticism and balance.  Training will include boat handling, boat speed, physics of sailing and weather, sail trim, one design tactics and strategy, video analysis and age-appropriate conditioning and fitness.  This team will be expected to travel to regattas and pursue regional and national competition. While we intend to have serious training we also strive for fantastic fun. Sailors that do not have the motivation to succeed, the desire to train, or the will to win, should sail in the JV Class.
